FEATURING SYLVIE BELLO – Under cover of the Presidential race Donald Trump’s administration has been rapidly and quietly deporting asylum seekers from Cameroon without following the proper procedures. Plane-loads of deportees have been expelled to a war torn nation where many fear they will face death. Over the course of months Cameroonian asylum seekers being held in detention centers in the U.S. have gone on hunger strike to protest their conditions. Senator Chris Van Hollen has written to Homeland Security Secretary Chad Wolf urging him to stop the deportations and Representative Karen Bass has introduced bills to do the same. Immigrant and refugee organizations have urged the U.S. to extend “Temporary Protected Status” to asylum seekers from Cameroon but all the efforts have so far been in vain.
