FEATURING DIANA BARBADILLO – The Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department has been under fire for years for violating people’s rights, struggling with corruption, and more. Now, with two recent shootings that have drawn community outrage, the LASD was marked by the ambush shooting of two of its sheriffs over the weekend. During tense protests being documented by local journalists, sheriffs violently arrested a local reporter named Josie Huang and dismantled a protest camp across from City Hall, ostensibly in retaliation for the shootings. As the LASD is seen as symbolic of racist and violent policing in America, we turn today to an observer of this past weekend’s tumultuous events.
