Doctors Say Best Alternative to Obamacare is Single Payer

FEATURING DR. CAROL A. PARIS – On Tuesday this week House Speaker Paul Ryan tweeted a sentiment about the Affordable Care Act that appeals to many conservatives. He said, “Freedom is the ability to buy what you want to fit what you need. Obamacare is Washington telling you what to buy regardless of your needs.”

Many have responded that Paul Ryan’s idea of freedom is for those who are already freed by wealth to pick and choose from the best health insurance plans and that for the rest of us it is simply the freedom to go bankrupt when illness strikes.

But doctors with the group Physicians for National Health Reform agree that Obamacare is in need of reform and that the best way to reform it is to switch to a Medicare-for-all system, that some call “single payer.” In fact the state of California agrees. Last week lawmakers introduced a bill to establish a single payer system in the nation’s most populous state.
